PROSPECTUS
The Reavley Theatre School is very proud to be a family run organization, with a caring “family atmosphere”. We are considered to be one of the most respected and experienced Theatre School in the region.
Sandra Reavley, a Fellow of the International Dance Teachers Association and a Registered Life member of the Royal Academy of Dance, opened the first school in January 1973 at St. Mary's Church Hall, Heworth, Gateshead. In November 1982 an additional school at Cromer Avenue, United Reform Church in Lowfell, Gateshead was opened.
In September 2005 we were very proud to open our own studio’s at Clayton House, Gateshead. The school has three studios a ballet studio with maple sprung flooring, a Tap and music studio with Harlequin Stage flooring. Both having mirrored walls and ballet barres The third large studio is converted into a drama studio. There is a Reception room where parents can sit if they wish, and have a hot drink, whilst their children have their classes. There are several changing rooms for the pupils.
The After gaining her IDTA Associate teachers qualification, and her Honours Degree in Education, Sandra’s daughter Vicki is now principal of the Low Fell branch. Her sister Joanna also has an Associate Teaching qualification and a First Class Honours Degree and she teaches in Clayton House Studio’s, in a part time capacity.
Children from as young as three years old to professional dancers are encouraged to take their first dance steps or prepare for their teaching examinations or auditions in a happy safe environment. Each child is valued as an individual and developed to reach their full potential. We also have adult tap and ballet classes combining fitness with fun.
All pupils are prepared for internationally recognized exams of the IDTA and RAD this encourages a gradual progress and a chance to achieve according to their talents and abilities. The school sets a high standard and several of our pupils have been recommended and have won IDTA Scholarships in Manchester. These scholarships are given to pupils with outstanding examination marks and all pupils of higher grade exams are considered by the IDTA examiners for scholarship potential.
EXAMINATIONS
Children are prepared for a wide range of internationally recognised exams from Rosettes for ages four and above to Advanced Artist exams and teaching exams. Sandra, Vicki and Joanna are qualified to prepare children and students for all IDTA and RAD exams, teaching exams can be taken from sixteen years of age for interested pupils
SUMMER SCHOOL
For many years a summer school for dance and drama has been organized during the school holidays. A Pop School now also takes place. An exciting biannual Summer School takes place in Paris which culminates in the pupils performing on the Fantasy Land stage in Disneyland’s Magic Kingdom.
DANCE AND DRAMA FESTIVALS
Reavley Theatre School enjoys taking part in local dance festivals. If selected your child will need to attend extra classes. All pupils who have solo work are expected to represent the school in group work.
FEES
Our fees are kept to a very competitive level. Reductions are made for sisters/brothers taking our musical theatre course and a third child’s normal weekly classes are free. Although fees may be paid weekly, they are termly fees and must be paid whether the child attends or not, this encourages regular attendance which allows the child to progress more quickly. In case of prolonged illness only two back weeks are charged provided we are notified. Classes must be paid for if a child has a holiday in term time. Please do not allow fees to become overdue, this is for your benefit as much as ours. Please let us know if you are having problems with fees before they go into arrears to see if anything can be done
UNIFORM
Once your child has settled in, the correct dress is required for each class. The colour of the leotard, tights and shoes is dependant upon the grade your child is in and the exam they are training for. Black jazz pants and our T-shirt and sweatshirt are the uniform for the 'Fame School'.
A specially designed sweatshirt and T-shirt are available with our logo.
